Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Eritrea were established on 4 February 1997.
Currently, the two countries have a bilateral agreement on the Recognition of Training and Certification of Seafarers for Service on Eritrean Flagged vessels which was signed on 17 April 2006.
The Philippine Embassy in Cairo, which is accredited to Eritrea, estimates that there are approximately 10 Filipinos in Eritrea.
There is minimal bilateral trade, with exports limited to paper and paper products while imports consist of metal-based construction materials.
